Linde Gas AG, Business Unit Specialty Gases, to Roll-out Prodacapo Balanced Scorecard Manager Worldwide Linde Gas AG, Europe's second largest producer of industrial gases and number four globally, signed a deal in April 2001 to implement Prodacapo Balanced Scorecard Manager in an international roll-out within the business unit Specialty Gases. To date, successful implementations have been carried out in Australia, Germany, UK, Singapore and the Head office in Munich. Linde Gas AG produces and sells industrial, health and specialty gases of the highest quality around the globe and had year 2000 a double-digit growth and a total turnover of 636 million Euros. With headquarter in Munich, Germany, Linde Gas AG has 8000 employees working in over 50 countries. Its decentralized structure allows the company to be particularly effective serving customers in their local markets whilst ensuring that Munich can maintain a successful co-ordination. In USA, Far East and Australia Linde Gas operates under the name of the local companies. “Linde Gas AG chose Prodacapo because the Prodacapo system offered the best integrated solution combining Balanced Scorecard, Activity Based Cost accounting and Process Management. The gas industry, like many other industries, is extremely competitive. Linde Gas AG has identified that in order to succeed, it is critical to think globally, but act locally. Whilst customer needs, and market opportunities, vary from country to country, requirements bridge national borders, which makes it imperative to coordinate strategies across a decentralized structure. This challenge is compounded with the need to invigorate all staff, including those from new companies, with a commitment to driving improvements in safety, quality, service and the bottom line. Results so far The Balanced Scorecard has proven to be an excellent framework for synchronizing international and regional strategies across Linde Gas AG. It has provided a tool for understanding and communicating factors critical for success in different regions. Furthermore, the regional companies now have a better understanding of global strategies, and how their business can contribute to the achievement of the overall goals. As a result some critical success factors and performance measures are common for both International and regional scorecards, whilst some are not, reflecting different market requirements. Linde Gas AG, can already now see that the Prodacapo software will be a powerful tool to drive change and improved results, both globally and locally.
